Boni Arendt is a classically trained oil painter and art educator working from her studio in Louisburg, North Carolina. With a deep love for the techniques and aesthetic of the Italian Renaissance, she creates contemporary works that honor traditional methods while speaking to modern sensibilities.
Her journey in art spans over 15 years, from founding The Red Rooster Gallery to earning a Master's in Education, all while maintaining a vibrant studio practice and teaching the next generation of artists.
My love for art began in childhood, but it wasn't until I discovered the works of the Italian Renaissance masters that I found my true calling. The way Caravaggio used light, how Titian captured the richness of color, the careful composition of Botticelli—these techniques captivated me and set me on a path of classical study.
After years of formal training and independent study, I opened The Red Rooster Gallery, a space where I could both create and share my passion with others. The gallery became a community hub for art lovers and aspiring artists, offering original works, art supplies, and my first teaching workshops.
Recognizing how much I enjoyed teaching, I pursued a Master's in Education. This formal training transformed how I approach instruction—I learned to break down complex techniques into digestible lessons, to meet students where they are, and to create an encouraging environment where creativity flourishes.
Today, I work from my home studio in Louisburg, where the rolling North Carolina countryside provides endless inspiration. My subject matter varies from vibrant nature studies—hummingbirds, spring chicks, wildflowers—to sweeping landscapes reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside. I also accept portrait commissions, bringing the same classical techniques to contemporary subjects.
Beyond my personal work, I continue to teach through workshops offered at my studio and in partnership with local parks and recreation programs. There's something deeply fulfilling about watching a student's eyes light up when they successfully mix that perfect shade of blue or capture the play of light across a surface.
I believe in the time-tested methods of the old masters—layering, glazing, and careful attention to light and composition create paintings with depth and luminosity.
The natural world provides endless inspiration. From the delicate wings of a hummingbird to golden wheat fields, nature's beauty deserves to be honored and preserved in paint.
Art is meant to be shared. Whether through finished paintings or by teaching others these techniques, passing on this knowledge enriches both teacher and student.
